The math and science homework is due Wednesday February 15th.
Thank you, Mrs. Claudio Dear parents,
Students were given a math mad minutes package today. This package is for students to work on daily practice. Spending 1-5 minutes a day of timed review would be great! We did one in class and students were given 1 minute for 30 questions. The packages do not need to come back to school. Thank you, Mrs. Claudio Students have started their science unit on Forces and Machines. Today and tomorrow in class students will be creating flip books that have information on simple machines. On Wednesday January 18th, students will be asked to tell me the 6 simple machines, an example for each and the definition. The assignment we are doing today and tomorrow has all the information they need and they are encouraged to study nightly.
Students will also be given multiplicaiton and long division questions to review. We will continue these math topics all year with bi-weekly review assignments. Thank you, Jessie The grade 5's have requested a class party - well deserved! They are wanting to share snacks tomorrow in class. If you are able to, please send your child with snacks that they can share. I know it is last minute so Mr. Leonard, Morah Shula and I will be providing snacks as well to thank our students for a wonderful first term. We wish you all a wonderful break full of love, laughter and great memories!
Sincerely, Mrs. Claudio Problem solving test has been moved to FRIDAY DECEMBER 9th. The format has also changed. Students will be given 4 word problems to work through and do not need to memorize the answers to the 5 questions given yesterday.
Thank you, Mrs.Claudio This week we started our unit on math word problems. Please see the attachment for a study sheet for students when they are approaching math problems. Next week Wednesday December 7th I will be asking the students the exact 5 questions that are on this sheet and asking them to tell me the answers. They will also be given 2 word problems to do. Homework this week will also be on word problems. Reminder homework is almost always given on Thursdays and due Tuesdays. Tests are usually on Wednesdays if and when given. Thank you, Mrs.Claudio
Just a reminder that the optional Caribou contest is running on Thursday (grades 5, 6, 7) this week at lunch. It will be in room 301. The interactive game is Sliding Blocks.
Also check out this link that you might find this interesting! A very visual and hands on way to show kids about fractions using lego. http://www.boredpanda.com/lego-math-teaching-children-alycia-zimmerman/ On Wednesday November 23rd we will be having a math test on multiplication and long division. Students will be bringing home a review package today and I encourage students to work on a few questions for daily review. Here are a few great websites as well for review. I have gone over the package and website with the students so they are familiar with how to use them.
