On Thursday, March 3rd the Grade 4s will be going to Grouse Mountain to take part in the Hiwus First Nations Cultural Program. This term we have been studying Canadian First Nations and this is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about Pacific Northwest aboriginal groups. This program includes a guided snowshoe walk in the woods followed by lunch in a traditional Hiwus feasthouse. A Squamish First Nations elder will then share traditional ways of life through song, dance, legends and crafts.
We will be leaving VTT at approximately 8:45am and returning in time for regular dismissal. The cost of this trip will be covered by VTT. Students are asked to dress warmly as we will be spending the majority of the day outdoors. Please ensure that your child has the following: - warm coat and snow pants - boots suitable for snow - hat, gloves/mittens, scarf - warm socks (and an extra pair) - sweater or fleece (layers are recommended) - backpack - snacks and lunch - filled water bottle - chapstick/sunscreen This is a truly unique and authentic cultural experience and we are very much looking forward to this field trip. Please sign and date the permission slip that was sent home and return it to me no later than Monday, March 1st. |
