For the past several weeks, we have been learning how to write a complete paragraph. We are currently working on a step-by-step approach to paragraph writing, and are focusing on topic sentences before moving on to detail. One of our goals this year is for students to develop more fluency in their writing. By examining and practicing various types of sentences, students will become much more confident in their writing abilities. One of our resources is a booklet outlining 16 different "sentence tricks". These tricks allow students to focus on one particular "trick" at a time.
Sentence Trick 1 was introduced today and it was called "Replace boring verbs with powerful verbs!". Using our daily sentence writing activity, students were able to find the verbs in their writing and choose better synonyms. For the remainder of the week and next week, we will continue to practice Sentence Trick 1 before moving on. Stay tuned!
