Part of the Social Studies curriculum this year in Grade 4 is current events. In class we explored different kinds of newspapers and their various sections. You were given an assignment in which you had to describe the importance of newspapers and explain why they are still relevant in today’s technological age. Now that you have a good idea of the set up of a newspaper, you are ready to begin reading and summarizing articles! Each week there will be two student reporters, however this is an individual assignment. You must choose two news articles (local/provincial and international) that you find interesting. While you are encouraged to use newspaper articles, ones found online are also acceptable. 1) Complete the Current Events Web for both of your articles.
3) Give a 3-5 minute presentation in front of the class, explaining both articles. Below is a list of points that I would like you to include in your oral presentation. - The name of the newspaper or website where the article was found. - Who is article is about? - What is the article about? - Where does it take place? - When does it take place? - Why did you choose this article? (Do not say “Because it was interesting”)
You will be graded using the rubric included in this package. Please look through it carefully and think about the different sections.
Happy reporting! *Rubrics and Webs can be found on next post.
